Colin's Heritage

Colin Lockitt Funeral Services Ltd recently won our 2021 Award of Excellence

but why do you think you’ve enjoyed the success you have?

The death of a loved one is probably the worst loss we will ever experience and the pain of that loss can feel overwhelming. If the unthinkable does happen then Thanet based Colin Lockitt Funeral Services Ltd is a name you can rely on. Colin is an experienced professional who has diligently served his local community with distinction for more than 33 years. In this edition of South East Star we were lucky enough to catch up with Colin who gave us a fascinating insight not only into his work but into the man himself.

What gave you the inspiration to launch Colin Lockitt Funeral Services Ltd?

I have spent my entire professional career working in the industry. Much of my career was spent working at Blackburn’s Funeral Service in Broadstairs but when the owner, Mr Geoffrey Love retired Blackburn’s became part of the Dignity Group. I felt that with my skills and experience I was better suited to the independent way of working so launched Colin Lockitt Funeral Services Ltd.

Our Background

I first started out in the industry 33 years ago and learnt my trade under the guidance of the late Mr Geoffrey Love at Blackburn’s Funeral Service. The skills I acquired during those early years have given me the skills I needed. Bereavement is difficult but my experience means I’m able to hold your hand through every step of the funeral process and help give your loved ones the send-off they deserve.

At all times I conduct myself with diligence, professionalism, care and compassion and I have extensive knowledge of all types of funeral services for people of all faiths and backgrounds. My objective has always been to offer affordable care and superior service to everyone, irrespective of personal beliefs or circumstances and I think it’s something we have been able to achieve. I understand that people wish to say goodbye in different ways; that’s why we provide such an extensive range of services to cater for each of our client’s individual needs. We think we are well thought of in the local community which means we are obviously doing something right.

Personal life

Between work and my family, I’m kept reasonably busy. I’ve been happily married to my wife, Sally for 43 years. We have three daughters and Seven grandchildren that we love spending time with. The rest of the spare time I have I spend working on my allotment in Broadstairs that I’ve now had for 15 years. I’m also a beekeeper which has been a hobby for more than a decade and is a member and former president of Thanet Lions.

Colin’s long career and achievements mean there are very few people better qualified to help you through the difficult process of organising a funeral. He covers Thanet, Broadstairs, Margate, Ramsgate , Herne bay, Deal, Dover, Folkestone and Ashford .

Although Colin Lockitt funerals Ltd,  may not be the biggest name in the industry, we can offer the kind of truly personal and individual service that would put many of our larger peers to shame. Funerals of course are not cheap in this day and age but with prices starting from £1,050 for a direct Basic Funeral prices are amongst the most competitive in the industry. The standing we enjoy amongst those who have used our services is a glowing endorsement of the man himself and the honest and ethical way that he operates.
